Becoming a Referee and Related Information

SSC is always looking for referees. Referees must be at least Grade 8 certified by United States Soccer Federation; the club can help you gain certification, training programs are usually held at least twice a year. Upcoming classes can be found at http://www.d2sra.org/train/instruct_entry.lasso.

Licensed referees must be in uniform and wear badge (regardless of age). Referees (center and assistants) should report at the field no later than 20 minutes before the game, dress in the standard referee uniform, and bring the appropriate equipment (license badge, rule book, pen, flags, etc.).

Youth Referees: We know that younger referees may be nervous. Team staff and parent should be kind and refrain from unnecessary comments. We realize that loud or derogatory opinions will not change a call but it will discourage referees from future assignments.

Players : A player must have the proper pass for the playing league.  Referees are expected to enforce this requirement. Also some leagues have started to mandate players to be dress in their correct club uniforms. Referees should expect the team players to avoid conflict and come prepared to dress in the proper uniforms.

To be considered as a referee, please send an email with your qualifications to referees@stanfordsoccerclub.org.
